I am now wondering if this species might actually perhaps be Reduviidae, possibly something like Oncocephalus squalidus.

Thanks Levente. At least I got to the right family and genus in the end!
Is it correct that the other two species recorded for Cyprus are O.brachymerus and O.obsoletus? I note that there are no images on line that are claimed to be either of these two.
Is there a key to this genus that would help me in sorting out which species it is or is it best to just record it as Oncocephalus sp. ?

Here is O. brachymerus: Link I know that O. obsoletus has a very characteristic transversal black line along the corium. So your specimen is for sure neither of them. If you don't have the specimen, you cannot go further on the ID Unfortunately I do not know all the Heteroptera fauna of Cyprus. But the following paper might have such a list but I don't have it: Lindberg, H., 1948A. On the insect fauna of Cyprus. Results of the expedition of 1939 by Harald, Hakan and P. H. Lindberg, I-II. Societatis Scientiarium Fennica, Commentationes Biologicae 10(7): 23--175. |

If you have the specimen, you can send it to Tristan Bantock. |

Thanks Levent. I know Tristan and he was one of the speakers I got to come to our first Neglected Insects in Beds conference, covering insect groups previously under-recorded in the County (Bedfordshire). He was talking about Auchenorrhyncha with Joe Botting covering Psyllids. We are now starting planning our third conference for Nov 2018. We run them every two years though now include some groups which are already quite well studied in the County.
Best wishes and thanks again
