Hello Marco,
I hope you can understand english and my apologies for not beeing able to write in italian although I can understand it to some extent. I know this post was in 2006 but I wonder if you have any more pictures of this Cynara? I am studying this Genus and this picture is very puzzling as it isn't Cynara cardunculus ssp cardunculus ( which is the subspecies you are said to have in Italy ) or much less Cynara cardunculus ssp. flavescens ( Which is the subspecies from the western parts of the mediterranean. Any informtion you can supply ( more pictures, more information about where you found it, if you seen more plants or just this one, possible seeds )will be extremelly valuable. Many thanks in advance. Sal salvador.soares@virginmedia.com

Hello Ametista,
It's very kind of you to let me know that Marco has been absent from your forum...I had hoped Marco would maybe have received an e-mail from the Forum.
I am passionate about this genus, Cynara, and the prospect of a new morph of Cynara cardunculus cardunculus or a reverted escaped horticultural variety or offcourse even more amazing, a new species, is very exciting.
Pictures can be very misleading but the specimen in the picture doesnt look right, that is why I was asking Marco for more information.
Just in 2008 a new species, Cynara makrisii was found in Cyprus so why not a new species in Italy :)
Many thanks Ciao Sal |
