Hi, this spider was posted at Spinnen-forum. Can someone please help with it? It was found in Korsika. (I do not have permission from the owner to post the photo here, so there is just a link)
Hello and welcome. Two subspecies of Eresus kollari (considered species by Rezak) are reported for Corsica: E. ignicomus and E. tricolor. Based on their descriptions, E. tricolor can be differentiated from the former by the presence of white spots on the opisthosoma and of orange hair on the prosoma, grouped in bigger spots compared to E. ignicomus. In other words, that should be E. tricolor.
Thank You! Eresus taxonomy is quite problematic. Can You please give reference about the status of these species? Because sometimes they are treated as subspecies of kollari. But of course kollari is very-very different! Thanks!
