It may be interesting.
I suppose that this plant refers to the genus Austrocylindropuntia.
...but the family Cactaceae is very critical.
However, the species is an alien.
How much plants have you seen? Are these plants casual or naturalized? Where do you found these plants? (locality, habitat) Have you other photos?
....I am sorry....many questions!
Ciao! ;) |

I have seen it only in one location, on the slope between the road and the sea, on the southwest side of the island Aegina, at a point where the land dives almost straight down into the sea, so I think it cannot have been planted there. At the moment I have only one photograph, but I can try to get more, although it is very difficult to photograph, as it is almost hanging over the sea. Joanna |

The slopes is a tipical habitat in coastal areas for the Cactaceae....and I know that the plants are very difficult to photograph!
Therefore, the plants might be naturalized!!
What is the approximate number of the plant?
I will wait the new photos!
Meanwhile, I will look for informations on the presence of the genus Austrocylindroopuntia in Greece.
Ciao! ;) |

I'm sorry, but I cannot tell how many individual plants there are, since I cannot see the ground where they are standing and I do not know how big and what shape one plant may have. I'm senidng you however photographs of the whole plant seen from different sides, so perhaps you will know if it's one plant or more of them. Ciao! What a coincidence! It looks (strongly) like the one I have in a pot. Do the spines stick to your fingers or wherever you touch the plant? The spines have harpoon shaped tips (you need a microscope), so it's really hard to remove them.
I named it "Cylindropuntia sp."
Ciao, Ermanno "profiterol" (sorry, italians only. I can't translate)
