Ciao a tutti,
I am going to introduce you a rare seaurchin from the Mediterranean Sea, this is Spatangus subinermis (Pomel, 1887) (ex-Spatangus inermis, Mortensen 1913). It is a very unknown seaurchin because it is very scarce and it is not appear in all the Mediterranean, only in Banyuls (France) and the gulf of Naples (Italy). The description of the species is the following:
" Maximum lenght: 96mm. Aboral surface without big spines and without big primary tubercles. This species is characterised by having primary tubercles and some bigger spines only bordering the anterior sulcus aborally. Very uncommon species which lives in a habitat very similar to Spatangus purpureus".
It is important not confuse this species with Spatangus purpureus (Muller, 1776) because they are very similar species.
