My friend sent me a foto of this seed, wich he found on the coast of the outer side of Dugi otok, Croatia (Link

Maybe a lateral view could be helpful to get an overall idea of this stuff but at a first glimpse it looks like a nut of Juglans nigra, an exotic (North America) tree sometimes cultivated. It is not rare here to see this nuts floating on the water of streams and small rivers in the countryside.

Thanx for the answer, I'll try to get few more photos. It came across my mind too, it could be some Juglans, but I wasn't sure..
