Hi all. I don't speak Italian so I'm posting this in English and hope it's OK to post in English on this site. If not, please tell me and I'll let Google Translate do it's job and post in Italian. Otherwise I can post in Spanish if that is better.
This was shot today, in the Alicante area of Spain, close to the mountains. I'm guessing it's a larva, but of what? A friend in another forum told me it is probably a Meloidae. You agree? If so what species? It's 1.5cm long, stretch out, and was found walking around on the ground. The soil is, as usual with my Spain photos, very arid and hard (whitish color ground). This creatures body is of a leathery soft skin that seems to be too big for him, which I guess means it's going to feed itself much larger in body size. Touching it feels like thin skin pouch. Hi Mats and welcome to the Forum! No matter to post in English. The insect in the picture is a larva, but it belongs to Chrysomelidae family: i think it is a Timarcha sp., I have no idea about the species which live in that area of Spain... You should wait the specialists: they will surely acknowledge or deny my opinion and, probably, tell you the species.

Thank you Luca.
I've been told in other forums too that this is a Timarcha sp.. No one seems to be able to pin point the species though, but I'm more than happy to have gotten this far in the ID :)
